A few months ago I decided to hop on the meal delivery service train after I wandered across an ad for EveryPlate. There was some kind of savings offer plus free shipping that convinced me to give it a try. I participated in EveryPlate for about two and a half months and I’ll give my honest review here!
Sign Up and Choosing Your Meals
I signed up because of an ad I saw on social media. I don’t quite remember what the savings was but I do remember the free shipping offer. I went to the website and had to enter delivery and payment information before I could choose my meals. I didn’t like this very much because I didn’t want to enter my card info then not like any of what they were serving up that week. Regardless, I signed up anyway and was presented with, if I remember correctly, five meals to choose form. Four meals were covered under the plan I chose (3 meals a week, 2 servings per meal) and one was a meal that I could “upgrade to.” I chose my three meals and my delivery date and waited for my delivery. I had ended up paying just under $20 for my three meals for the first week.
Packaging & Delivery
Everything came packaged nicely in a “refrigerated” box. It came in February so I wasn’t concerned about anything thawing when I left it outside all day, but the packaging was good enough that it would have stayed cold even if temps were higher.
All the food items were together, not separated by meal. I did not mind this at all. The instructions clearly marked what had to be refrigerated and what didn’t. The produce all looked great and I was excited to cook.
Making My Meals
So, unfortunately, I did not take any pictures of my meals. My cooking isn’t usually photo-worthy anyway. It tastes good, so it’s really what’s on the inside that counts. Since it was so long ago I can’t remember all my meals and my account won’t go back to show me. I do remember one meal being a pepper jack grilled cheese and tomato soup and oh my I am hungry just thinking about it.
The meals all turned out delicious. The instructions were easy to follow and each step was easy enough. I’m no pro chef but I’d like to think that I sometimes know what I’m doing. I think this service would be good even for beginners because it’s so easy to follow. I just find that, personally, it took me more time to prep and cook than the service said it would, but maybe I’m just a slow cooker!
Skipping & Rescheduling
I signed up for this service right before I moved so I had to skip some deliveries. You have to skip at least a week before or they will automatically charge you and ship it, even if you contact customer service. You also have to choose your meals by this deadline or you get what they send you. I found myself putting a reminder on my calendar so I wouldn’t miss the deadline. I did four weeks of this service, not all consecutive because I was able to skip some weeks.
Overall Opinion
I really liked EveryPlate. Even without the discount or free shipping, it’s still so affordable. All of my meals were delicious and somewhat easy to prepare.
If I had to list some negatives, it’d be:
- Not enough variety in meals. I know they recently added some new meals so I’d like to check them out again, but when I was subscribed I wasn’t always thrilled with all of the options. I skipped at least one week because I didn’t like the options.
- Tight deadline. I understand why it is the way it is but sometimes I found the deadline to skip or choose meals to be a little too tight.
My positives are:
- Every meal was delicious!
- I got to mix up my weekly meals by incorporating things like chicken sausage, spicy grilled cheese, and delicious vegetable sides.
- Customer service is responsive, helpful, and accommodating.
- Deliveries were on-time and very well packaged.
So if you’d like to sign up, I have a link that will give you $20 off your first delivery. That’s a pretty good deal if I could say so myself. I also get a $20 credit if you sign up using my link, so if you’d like to sign up without my link, you can always go to everyplate.com!
